Federation Technologies for API Management: Apicurio, SwaggerHub, and Stoplight

Table of Contents

1. Federation

Federation in API management refers to the coordination of API specifications, schemas, and data models across multiple platforms, registries, and teams. Rather than a single central authority, federated API infrastructure lets teams independently own their API contracts while a shared registry (such as Apicurio or Google API Registry) enforces compatibility and discoverability. Design platforms like SwaggerHub and Stoplight can then pull from that registry to keep documentation and SDK generation in sync.
